The June monthly meeting featured Stacy Shindler of Edward Jones. Unfortunately, our meeting was hacked, so we aren’t able to share the recording, but we’ve got the 5 habits outlined below, along with some tips for talking to kids about money.
- Goal Oriented
- Create the design of what you want to achieve
- Regularly Check Their GPS
- Regular checkpoints, financial review and goal evaluation to make sure you’re staying on track
- Don’t Put All Their Eggs in One Basket
- A diverse financial portfolio will give them more balanced earnings
- Put Time on Their Side
- Evaluated market moves against a calendar and stay the course for long term objectives
- Stay Cool When the Market’s Temperature Rises
- Prepare and plan BEFORE at downturn, remain calm and focus on fundamentals
Kids & Money
It’s never too early to start talking about money! Here are some suggestions for different age groups:
2-5 years: Introduce counting, coins & money; the concept of making money by working; make believe store or restaurant
6-10 years: Introduce earning, spending, saving, and giving money; open a savings account; begin comparing prices
11-14 years: Goal setting; value of hard work; need -vs- want; continue discussions from earlier years
15-18 years: Create budget and set specific goals; get a job; open checking/savings account; learn to use ATM/write checks/balance accounts online; learn about credit and taxes.
Stacy invites you to connect on LinkedIn at Stacy Lynn Shindler (fun fact: her husband is also named Stacy Schindler, so you need the “Lynn” to find her on LinkedIn)
